Storage Unit Tips

When it comes to storing your belongings, there’s a right way and a wrong way. Here at Castle, we want your belongings to stay exactly the way you left them, so here are our storage unit tips and tricks.

  • Say no to plastic. Plastic traps in moisture so that’s the last thing you should wrap or cover your belongings with. Use cloth coverings instead.
  • Do use plastic totes instead of cardboard boxes because cardboard can absorb moisture from the air, which could affect the contents of the box, if clothes or blankets are stored inside.
  • Leave washing machines and refrigerators open to allow air to circulate in and out. This will keep that stagnant smell out of the storage unit. Don’t forget to drain any water still left in machines!
  • Store your sofas and love-seats on their ends to save space.
  • If you can disassemble items, DO IT. This is a huge space saver!
  • Put towels and linens in the fridge, washing machine, dryer, drawers, and any other nook and cranny you can find.
  • Bye bye, stink! Put coffee grounds or baking soda in pantyhose and hang them up throughout the unit. It will absorb that musty, moldy smell.
  • Label. Label everything. Nothing is worse than having to find something and forgetting which box you put it in.
